FAQ
What do room capacity and CADR mean?
CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate) is the amount of purified air per hour, expressed in m³/h. A higher CADR means that an appliance can filter more air per hour. Also check the maximum recommended floor area in m² in the model’s technical specifications. Performance in your room also depends on the fan setting, furnishings and use.
Do air purifiers help with allergies?
A WINIX HEPA air purifier can filter airborne allergens such as pollen and dander from the air it draws in. Whether symptoms improve varies by person and environment. Air filtration complements ventilation and reducing sources of allergens; it does not replace medical treatment.
Which certifications do WINIX air purifiers have?
- ECARF – The European Centre for Allergy Research Foundation (ECARF) aims to improve quality of life for people with allergies through allergy research: www.ecarf.org.
- Allergy UK Seal of Approval – The British Allergy Foundation is an internationally recognised charity providing advice, information and support to people with allergies and food intolerances. It represents people living with allergies: www.allergyuk.org
- AHAM – The Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers runs a Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) programme so you can compare air purifiers fairly and consistently for dust, smoke and pollen removal.
- Energy Star – a programme certifying consumer products that meet specific energy-efficiency standards.
How often should I replace the filters?
WINIX air purifiers alert you when the filters need replacing. One filter pack, supplied with every WINIX air purifier, lasts approximately one year under normal use. If you have a WINIX air purifier with Wi-Fi, the WINIX Smart App shows the filter status.
How do I replace the filter?
First check which filter fits your model. Unplug the appliance and follow the steps in the manual for your model. Remove the protective wrapping from the new filter, fit the parts in the specified order, then reset the filter indicator as described in the manual. Separate filter sets and All-in-One cartridges may require different procedures.
Can I leave my air purifier on all the time?
We even recommend it, because the smart air-quality sensors in your air purifier adjust the fan speed so it never uses more energy than needed to maintain healthy air quality. Our air purifiers also have a light sensor that switches the appliance to sleep mode in the dark, with dimmed lights and low power. Leaving your purifier on lets it continuously draw in room air and filter out pollutants.
Where is the best place for my air purifier?
In general, place your WINIX air purifier where it can create the best airflow, preferably a little away from walls and furniture. Put it where you spend most of your time, such as your bedroom, living room or home office, or where odours or allergens bother you most, such as the kitchen or an area used by pets.
There is a smell coming from my air purifier.
When the appliance is new, the filter materials sometimes need to air out. Let the appliance run for a day; the smell should then disappear. If it bothers you, you can place the appliance in a separate room while it airs out.
I hear a buzzing sound when my air purifier is on.
When it is very quiet, you may sometimes hear a slight hum or electrical buzz from the PlasmaWave® generator inside the appliance. This is nothing to worry about. The PlasmaWave® generator uses electricity to create a strong corona discharge, which occasionally produces a faint buzz. This simply means everything is working correctly. You can switch the PlasmaWave® function off if you wish, but this reduces cleaning performance.
What is an activated carbon filter?
An activated carbon filter helps reduce certain odours and gaseous substances in the air drawn into the appliance. The HEPA filter has a different purpose: it captures airborne particles. Carbon filter performance and maintenance vary by model; consult the relevant filter information.
What is HEPA filtration?
A HEPA filter captures fine airborne particles such as dust, pollen and dander from the air passing through it. The stated filtration efficiency applies to the filter itself and does not guarantee that the same percentage of particles will be removed from the entire room.
What is the washable Advanced Odor Control (AOC) carbon filter?
The Advanced Odor Control (AOC) carbon filter helps reduce certain household odours.
What is PlasmaWave® technology?
PlasmaWave® is an additional cleaning stage alongside the pre-filter, carbon filter and HEPA filter. The technology uses positive and negative ions. See the explanation of PlasmaWave® and your model’s manual for information on operation and controls.
What do the air-quality sensor and Auto mode do?
With Auto mode, you do not need to adjust your WINIX air purifier yourself. The air-quality sensor lets you set the appliance to Auto mode, which automatically adjusts the cleaning power for optimum performance: working hard when needed and saving energy whenever possible.
